Aktiebolaget Svenska Kullagerfabriken founded on 16 February 1907. Sven Wingquist, inventor of the double-row self-aligning ball bearing, was one of the founding members and the first Managing Director. Axel Carlander was Chairman of the Board. The share capital amounted to 110 000 kronor. A patent application was filed on 6 June. Patents were eventually granted in ten countries. The first factory was built at Säve Strandgata, Gothenburg. SKF was the basis of the creation of the world famous automaker Volvo, which became the separate division and soon an independent company in 1935
SKF is an innovator for 110 years in the field of creating various bearing designs. Milestones for the technical development of SKF bearings begin from the first self-aligning ball bearing to the bearing units "HUB". Today SKF has 80 factories and 150 trading companies located around the world, where currently employs 41 thousand employees. Of every 100 bearings are used in the world - 20 bearings bearing the "SKF" brand.
Today, SKF produces 600 million bearings a year (or 19 bearings per second). The smallest is 1 gram, the largest is 55 tons. The range of products covers 95% of the world's standard bearing sizes.
